Former farmhouse in a fragile rural zone, near Tungelroy (Limburg) to be adapted for family use. The upgrading and modernisation, involving high-quality isolation, will respect characteristic regional detailing: brickwork cornices, absence of gutters, window-frames, on the exterior. On the interior, the hayloft shows rafters of crude roundwood. These will loose their structural function but remain in sight after conversion. The stand-alone position of the house is a design challenge for autarky. Grey water will be purified through a reed-filter. Clever orientation of space reduces energy use. Solar collectors and low-temperature heating reduce energy consumption. Beside the design of the conversion, Tussen Ruimte provided consultancy on issues of use/zoning-plan and environmental criteria.
