‘Text-a-bility’ multi-media pavilion
The proposal was developed in 2007 at the request of a textile-recycling company, which collects old cloths and develops techniques for sorting and scrapping the fibres, producing tons of useful basic material. We proposed to press lightweight 'textile bricks' or spray curved components into moulds. Thanks to sorting, the specifications of these building elements can be tailored: sound-proof, rain-proof, colour, etc. To illustrate this principle we designed a mobile pavilion suitable for sound-rehearsal (closed) or performances (open). There is a lack of rehearsal and performance space in urban renewal areas, to experiment and develop cross-border art. The new-old-textile building material could answer very adequately to these new spatial needs. All we need now is a sponsor to build the pavilion!
