'Poortgebouw' is the name of a monumental building as well as of the Association of its inhabitants. Since 1983 they form a collective of young artists, professionals and students living and working in the building they rent as a collective. In 2001 the building was sold to a private developer who aims to re-develop for office space. Besides taking the eviction-order to court, the Poortgebouw Collective have also developed a renovation plan of their own. Tussen Ruimte organised workshops to articulate future spatial needs and provided technical solutions. Jointly, a feasible plan was produced that attracted new partners for the Collective. Sadly, so far the private owner refuses to sell, meanwhile neglecting basic maintenance. See poortgebouw website for the latest news.
