A former printshop in 'Cool' district [Rotterdam] has been given in use to a mix of organisations for a 10 year period. activities include: El Fath: meeting room for senior citizens. Sam Sam: play and chat for mothers & young children. Al Arquam: girls peer group and assistance with homework. SKVR: workshop, expo. The design challenge was to create a welcoming, open atmosphere facilitating interaction and preserving daylight, while avoiding nuisance during activities. Instead of giving every group its own room, we choose to provide each with its own cupboard. The space is subdivided through these storage-modules, compartments can be given a variable use during the day. each group decorating heir own storage-module, using recycled materials: Low-budget hands-on participation.
